FAQs

What should I wear for paddling?

Wear clothing that will make for a comfortable day on the water for you. We’d recommend shorts or swim trunks on bottom and a t-shirt, tank top, swim suit of any combination of those on top. Bringing a long sleeves dry fit or fishing shirt is also highly recommended for our longer treks where you will be exposed to the sun for multiple hours. Don’t wear anything you wouldn’t want to get wet.

Is there anything I need to bring for our trip?

The most important accessory to bring is a filled water bottle. We’d recommend at least a 32 oz. water bottle, the best styles are those like a Nalgene that could be attached to your board with a carabiner. We supply all participants with one carabiner on their board.

Anything you bring along on the trek carries the risk of falling in the water along the way, so we highly recommend only bringing the essentials. We do offer rentals of dry bags which can be clipped on boards for a small fee to bring along items such as a cell phone, camera, keys or extra clothing layers or snacks.

Will I be able to get off my board and swim during the trek?

We design all our treks to meet the goals of the groups we’re taking out. Some of our locations are more accommodating to a quick swim than others. If this is something you’re hoping to do along the way, make sure to let us know when you book so we can make sure to help you pick the best one for your group.

What if I have terrible balance, Can I do this?

People are almost always surprised that our boards feel much more stable than they were expecting. We always start treks from a seated or kneeling position and work through the basics of getting to a standing position on the board. All participants can stay seated or kneeling for as long as is comfortable for them. We also offer a kayak conversion kit that can be added to a trek for individuals for a small fee. Make sure to let us know when you book if you would like to add this option.

If you’ve tried paddle boarding in the past and haven’t been able to stand up and want to work on this skill, we’d recommend booking a Tier 1 trek with us to work through some basics before booking a long trek.

Are any snacks or water provided?

Our Tier 3 treks come with a cooler stocked with ice, water, and sports drinks and light packaged snacks like granola bars. Tier 3 groups are welcome to bring their own food and beverages to stock in the cooler as well. No food or drinks are provided for Tier 1 or 2 treks, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

Can I bring alcohol along on the trek?

While our crew loves a great beer on the water, we do not allow any alcohol on our treks. The safety of all our participants is always our number one priority, and this safety standard is non-negotiable. If anyone is found to have brought alcohol along on a trek, the trek will be immediately halted for all participants in the group and there will be no refunds issued.

What if I want to explore a waterway that isn’t listed as a trek?

Our team is always looking to explore new waterways. If there is a local waterway which you are interested in booking a trek on, give us a call and after we have the chance to do some research, we will get back to you about the possibility of booking a trek with us.

Will you book a Trek on Buffalo Bayou Downtown?

Although we love admiring the Houston skyline, our passion is paddling waterways more removed from the urban environment that offer more glimpses of the natural environment. We do not offer treks on Buffalo Bayou, but would be happy to connect to you some friends that do.
